I get it. I've been there. And I've watched hundreds of Christian women entrepreneurs stand at this exact crossroads.

Here's what I've learned: The difference between those who build something that lasts and those whose dreams crumble at the first storm isn't about who had the best idea, the most money, or the perfect timing. It's about the foundation they chose to build on.​

The Parable That Changes Everything​

Jesus told a story in Matthew 7:24-27 that I believe is speaking directly to you as an entrepreneur today. You've probably heard it before, but stay with me—there's something here specifically for your business journey.

"Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

Notice what Jesus doesn't say. He doesn't say the foolish builder didn't work hard. He doesn't say the house on sand looked bad from the outside. In fact, when the sun was shining and the weather was calm, both houses probably looked pretty similar.

The difference only became evident when the storms came.

And friend, in business? The storms always come.

Why Your Foundation Matters More Than Your Strategy​

Imagine this scenario: A woman comes to coaching with a gorgeous business plan. Professional branding. A detailed five-year projection. She's done her market research. She has everything figured out—except the foundation.

When asked what biblical principles would guide her business decisions, she pauses. When asked how her faith would inform her hiring practices, her pricing strategy, her response to setbacks—she hasn't thought that far.

Six months later, she faces her first major decision: cut corners to meet a deadline and keep a big client, or maintain her standards and risk losing the contract. Without a solid foundation of values to stand on, every decision feels like starting from scratch. She's exhausted. And eventually, she walks away from the business altogether.

Compare that to what it looks like when someone spends their first three months not building a website or designing a logo, but praying, studying, and getting crystal clear on the biblical foundation of their business. 1. Invest in a Solid Spiritual Foundation

Before you register your business name or design your first product, I want you to answer this question: What biblical principles will be non-negotiable in your venture?

Not theoretical ones. Real, practical ones that will guide you on Tuesday afternoon when you're tired and frustrated and tempted to compromise.

Will you operate with radical honesty, even when it costs you? How will you treat employees or contractors? What will you do when a client asks you to bend your values? How will you handle financial pressure?

I'm not talking about slapping a Bible verse on your website and calling it a "Christian business." I'm talking about letting Scripture inform every single decision you make. This is the bedrock that will hold you steady when everything else is shaking.

Spend time in prayer. Open your Bible and ask God to show you the principles that should guide this specific venture. Write them down. Make them personal. Make them specific.

This isn't fluff work, friend. This is foundation work. And it matters more than anything else you'll do.

2. Move from Inspiration to Action

Jesus didn't just say "everyone who hears these words." He said "everyone who hears these words and puts them into practice."

Here's a hard truth: Inspiration without implementation is just daydreaming.

I know so many talented, called women who have been "planning to start" their business for three years. They've been to conferences. They've read books. They've watched YouTube videos. They're waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect plan, the perfect confidence level.

But Ecclesiastes 11:4 warns us: "Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap."

Your foundation isn't just about believing the right things—it's about actively incorporating those beliefs into your business model from day one.

How will your venture serve others? How will it glorify God in practical, tangible ways? What Kingdom impact are you designing into your business model, not just hoping happens accidentally?

These aren't questions to answer later. They're questions to answer now, before you build anything else.

3. Prepare for the Inevitable Challenges

Notice something important about Jesus' parable: both builders faced storms. The rain fell on both houses. The winds beat against both structures.

Your commitment to Christ doesn't exempt you from challenges. In fact, building a Kingdom-focused business might invite more challenges, not fewer.

But here's the good news: when you build on solid rock, the storms reveal your strength rather than expose your weakness.

So let's get practical. What challenges are you likely to face in your specific field?

Financial pressure in the early months? Competition from businesses with fewer scruples? Criticism from people who don't understand your calling? Seasons where you feel like giving up?

Don't wait until you're in the middle of the storm to figure out your response. Decide now. What truths will you cling to when things get hard? What support systems will you have in place? Who will speak truth to you when you're discouraged?

James 1:2-4 tells us to "consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

The storms are coming. Invest in preparation now.

4. Think Long-Term Legacy

Quick question: Are you building a business or building a legacy?

I know, I know—you just want to get started! You want to make some income, serve some clients, see if this thing works. And that's okay. We all start there.

But while you're in this foundation-building stage, I want you to lift your eyes beyond the next quarter or even the next year.

What will this business look like in ten years? Twenty years? What impact do you want to have made? What will people say about how you conducted yourself? How you treated people? How you honored God in the marketplace?

Proverbs 13:22 says, "A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's children." What inheritance—not just financial, but spiritual and ethical—are you building?

This long-term perspective will change how you make decisions today. It will help you resist short-term thinking that sacrifices lasting impact for immediate gain.

Your business isn't just about you. It's about the Kingdom. It's about the people you'll serve. It's about the example you'll set. It's about the legacy you'll leave.

Build with that in mind.

5. Seek Wisdom Through Coaching and Community

The wise builder in Jesus' parable represents someone who seeks and applies godly wisdom. And friend, here's something I need you to hear: You cannot do this alone.

I know the DIY approach is tempting. YouTube tutorials, free downloads, figuring it out as you go. And yes, there's a place for that. But not at the foundation level.

Proverbs 15:22 is clear: "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed."

You need people who have built what you're trying to build. You need coaches who understand both the business side and the faith side.
